Why are populations, rather than individuals, the units of evolution?

Biology

The units of evolution are populations and not individuals because a variation or a mutation in an individual is not sure to last or produce offsprings having the same variation or mutation. The proof that a species has truly evolved is when the variation has allowed the species to survive its environment and produce generations carrying the same variation.

By growing on the trunk or branch of a tree, a lichen gains height and exposure to sunlight for photosynthesis. The tree is not
Dafna11 [192]

Answer:

a. commensalism is the correct answer.

Explanation:

By growing on the trunk or branch of a tree, a lichen gains height and exposure to sunlight for photosynthesis. The tree is not harmed by the lichen but does not benefit either. The relationship between the lichen and the tree is commensalism.

Commensalism is a relationship between two organisms where one organism gets benefits from other organisms without causing any harm or any damage from the relation as it one side symbiotic relation.

In this, we can see lichen is getting benefits from the tree.

for example, lichen is getting following benefits from the tree such as ( a lichen gains height and exposure to sunlight for photosynthesis.) and they are causing any harm to tree neither any benefits so this is a one-side symbiotic relation and thus the relationship is an example of commensalism.

Challenges of moving from an aquatic to a terrestrial environment You have the pleasure of observing wood frog tadpoles in a pon
blsea [12.9K]

Answer:

body size

more

circulatory system

egg deposition

Explanation:

Because of their large body size , ancestral amphibians likely faced challenges supporting themselves out of the aquatic environment.

Although there was far more oxygen available to gills in air than in water, the delicate structure of gills couldn't be supported in the terrestrial environment.

The costs of locomotion on land and greater oxygen demand from enlarged muscles led to modifications of the heart and circulatory system

These early amphibians could not venture too far away from water because egg deposition was restricted to moist environments.
