The Age of Reason or the Enlightenment, appeared as a philosophical movement at the end of the 17th and the beginning of the 18th century, first in Europe and then in North America. This movement advocated the enlightenment of the human mind over the medieval dark period, human reason, above dogma and imposed absolutism. One of the main ideas is the rule of majority opinion, which has led to a tendency towards democratic governments, and not the rule of the king as an absolute. This again led to the emergence of many national revolutions for national emancipation and freedom.
