Answer:

Yes, the reasoning being was that there were two options to make the Japanese surrender in order to end the war. One was to invade Japan and another was bombing it. The US previously did try to invade Japan, but suffered major casualties, if they were to invade more, the US would lose a lot of soldiers and material. Dropping the atom bomb was the better option as it didn't risk any US lives and it was it scare the Japanese into surrendering.
