Answer: The right answers are:

B) The characterization reveals Max’s nervousness.

D) Frustration.

C) The characterization reveals Maggie’s regret.

Explanation: Just to elaborate a little on the three answers, it can be added that the first passage uses characterization to reveal Max's nervousness by describing that he "tapped his toe erratically" and told to himself that everything would be fine. In addition, he avoided talking to other students and chewed a gum "to absorb some of his energy." In the second passage, the writer's voice reveal frustation, since the son cannot get his father's approval to go to the place where he wants to go, and he is not allowed to finish his argument. As a result, he bows his head, breath deeply, and gritts his teeth in frustation. Finally, in the third passage, the characterization reveals that Maggie is regretful. She has said something to her sister and now she asks herself why she said that, bowing her head and shaking it side to side. When she arrives to her room she decides to send her an email and to apologize.

Select all the correct answers.
Zarrin [17]

Answer:

The correct answer that shows that American Indians wanted to make peace with European colonists is B. "Being after some time of entertainment and gifts, dismissed, a while after he came again, and 5 more with him, and they brought again all the tools that were stolen away before, and made way for the coming of their great Sachem, called Massasoyt; who, about 4 or 5 days after, came with the chief of his friends and other attendance, with the aforesaid Squanto."

Explanation:

The said excerpt shows that American Indians were trying to make peace with the Europeans because first of all they brough gifts and returned the tools that had been stolen. Moreover, they even brought their Sachem, a paramount chief and returned later with more chiefs. Both actions seem like a reparation of things being stolen in order to soothe the relationship and then bringing their chiefs as a sign of respect to negotiate peace with the colonists.

How are Lourdes and Enrique's departures from Honduras similar? How are they different? And what is your opinion on learning fro
zhannawk [14.2K]

Answers with Explanations:

1. How are Lourdes and Enrique's departures from Honduras similar? How are they different?

Lourdes and Enrique's departures from Honduras are similar in a way that they are both searching for something. Lourdes was looking for a better job, so she can give her children a better life while Enrique was looking for his mother, the only person he thinks can understand him

The only difference in their departures is that Lourdes legally migrated to the U.S.A. for work while Enrique went there illegally. It was a dangerous endeavor for Enrique, but he was able to manage although he needed to weather many threats.

2. What is your opinion on learning from a parent's life experiences? Do you think that we learn from our parents or that we, as children, make the same mistakes?

I believe that we, as children, learn from a parent's life experiences. This gives us the chance to change and not commit the same mistakes. Although it's true that parents are the first teachers of children at home, observing their situation (especially if it's bad or negative) gives children a warning sign of not repeating the same mistakes.

Think about the short story "The Lottery." The reader can conclude that the lottery was held MAINLY to _____.
Rufina [12.5K]

Answer:

B. preserve an institutionalized tradition that imposed limits on its participants.

Explanation:

The main idea of The Lottery is how societies often preserve traditions even after they have lost any reason for existing and even become damaging to the people. This is the case of the lottery which is held in the town. The lottery has no particular purpose or benefit. It is simply maintained and repeated because of an extreme desire to respect and maintain tradition, and to limit the behaviour and liberty of people.
