Paragraph 17 contributes to the ideas in the text because it shows that Fredrick Douglass fought "for equality and justice for his entire life" and died doing just that. He was literally just about to give a speech at a church when, age 77, he had a heart attack and died. Right before that he had had a meeting with National Council of Women. He lived and died fighting for the rights of equality for everyone.
