The American colonists believed they had the same rights of British subjects.

Explanation:

Americans colonists were under the authoritarian English rulers. The declaration proclaims that Americans have the same rights as the Englishmen do.

It also clearly states that all are equal under God’s will. Americans were asked to pay heavy taxes and their freedom speech was curbed during the British rule. They were given no say in the parliament.

This paved way for the end of British government and the peasants rose in a huge protest which lead to American Independence.
