Answer:

The U.S had just come out of a war for their independence, fighting a monarchy Great Britain for control. They wanted representation for issues in the colonies which they were not granted. The founding fathers wanted a government that represented the people and was by the people, because they didn't want the government to descend into tyranny like Britain.
