Women and children during the 19th century struggled to have a fair workplace since they were deemed "cheap labor" and for this most employers hired children and women. They did not have a hard time finding a job but once they worked they were worked extremely hard and almost to death. Children had it worse since they were most affected by the work area, most families forced their children to work at very young ages some even being reported to be as young as six. Not only were they forced to work at very young ages but they also were worked for very long hours for very small wages. Both women and children also lost limbs due to the machines used at the time and without proper safety many also lost their lives. Men were also affected with many being put out of work due to the cheaper cost of children and women.
