Which response best explains how author Mark O’Mara aims to improve society in the article "Gun Debate? What Gun Debate?"
wariber [46]

Answer:

D- O’Mara puts statistics about gun deaths in a new light in order to shock readers into acknowledging the devastation of gun violence.

Explanation:

In the news article "Gun Debate? What Gun Debate?", Mark O'Mara presents a factual and insightful account of how the freedom to possess guns has led to numerous deaths in and around the country, especially among the younger generations. This 'gun culture' has allowed easy access to the weapon which also became one of the major leading causes of deaths such as the school shootings.

The article gave a statistical report on how much American youths have been killed due to this easily accessible freedom. Even though there are numerous ways of preventing these deaths, the government seems to find no plausible solution to stop the violence. He mentioned that <em>"there have been 74 shootings on or around schools or colleges in the year and a half since the Sandy Hook massacre. That's averaging one a week."</em> This is solid evidence of what the free access to guns has led to, and he is sure that there will be another school shooting shortly.

His went on to state that <em>"Suffering 30,000 gun deaths annually is not a reasonable sacrifice to make in order to blindly maintain our unrestricted gun culture, particularly when the rallying cry is an outdated reference concerning infringement which, known to anyone who has actually studied the Constitution and our founding fathers who drafted it, was a reference to the then-existing reality that young men, when called upon to defend the state and the laws of the state, were expected to provide their own arms." </em>

And so, <u>O'Mara's opinions on how to improve society can be best seen in his presentation of the statistics about gun deaths. He presents them in a new light, shocking readers into acknowledging the level of devastation that gun violence has on us.</u>

Write what the meaning of the figure of speech means: Maria’s favorite song wrapped its arms around her and rocked her to sleep
suter [353]
The figure of speech here is personification.

Personification is a figure of speech where human qualities are attributed to inanimate objects, animals or phenomena. In the sentence: "<span>Maria’s favorite song wrapped its arms around her and rocked her to sleep", the song is personified as having the human ability to comfort and embrace a person, and soothe them enough to "rock" them to sleep. </span>

Which best describes the role dialect plays in the development of the English language as we know it today?
Sliva [168]

Answer:

The London dialect is the basis of modem English

Explanation:

The written form of modern English is based on the London dialect, which greatly influenced written forms when modern English was established. However, the pronunciation of words within modern English has changed a lot over the years, moving further away from the London dialect, mainly by adding new words and words mixed with foreign languages.

This proves how the language is a living system in constant evolution and modification, following the advance of humanity.
