Answer:

The Divine Comedy is an epic poem written by Dante Alighieri between 1304 and his death in 1321. The theme of the poem is Dante’s journey through hell, purgatory, and heaven as a medieval vision of the afterlife. The symbolism and mysticism of number three are emphasized, as well as man's dignity and aspiration for freedom, that is, criticism of the Church and its dignitaries, which belongs to the Renaissance worldview. Thus, breaking with religious ties, Dante presents a totally personal interpretation regarding the afterlife, which allowed the society of that time to break with the ecclesiastical interpretation of the question and formulate its own views regarding life after death such as it is described in the Bible. In addition, this work also led to a break with the church in a social sense, as in a sense it undermined his power as the sole interpreter of religious scriptures.
