Once in a village, there were two best friends, they spend most of the time resting under a tree and thinking about what should they do in their life. In thinking they had already lost a lot of their precious time. So, one day they noticed that the women in the village used to bring water pots from the river which is far far away. How many rounds they may make, the water was never enough for the family daily needs. Now, they had an idea. They went to the village and offered them that these best friends would bring water pots on behalf of them and in return charge 25 cents per pot. Everyone liked the offer and their business grows too fast. They started to make 50 to 100 rounds daily. The days passed, years passed. after 10 years, they were the richest men in all the close villages. But then, one of the friends realized that they need to do something. Now, they are healthy and young but they will not stay this way forever, what will happen to our family then. But the other said forget it, nothing is going to be bad. enjoy this time, we are doing great. But the former knows nothing but still want to find the alternative. Some days later, in a neighboring village, he saw a potter making pots and noticed a pot with a long narrow neck. He thought what if we make a large long pipe of clay and bring it to the village. The other friend said it is never going to work, a pipe of clay, it is really a bad idea. This friend had thousands of reasons why this is not going to work but the first one had only one that he wants to try it.The construction began. true, a lot of problems came in the way. the pipe breaks many a time and many others too. but finally after 6 to 7 months later, the pipe was all in the place and the water starts to flow in the village. Now, he can offer a thousand Pots per day, thus decreased the rate to 10 cents per pot.Income starts to flow in the first friend’s pocket and the second is jobless now, who wants pots for 25 cents if they can have it for 10 cents?

Moral of the story:Don’ t be afraid to fail, be afraid to not to try. If you do nothing, you will get nothing. But if you try to do something there are chances that you may fail or you may succeed. But this time the chances had increased by 50% and it is a lot more than the former 0%.

In lines 4-5, what do the words "captivity" and "street- scarred" MOST LIKELY suggest about the speaker?

O A. He was located far from his home.

O B. He was interested in helping others.

O C. He was trapped in an existence that was harmful.

D. He was ignored by people who failed to accept him.

Answer:

The correct answer is option O C. He was trapped in an existence that was harmful.

Explanation:

This question reffers to the poem "From Trauma to Transformation" by Luis J. Rodriguez.

n these two words that appear at the beginning of the poem, we can see how the author describes a life that was hurting him.

To understand it better, let's look at the following quote:

The calling came to me while I languished

in my room, while I whittled away my youth

in jail cells and damp neighborhood fields.

It brought me to life, out of captivity,

in a street-scarred and tattooed place

I called body.

Given this information, we can say that the correct answer is option C.

CLOSE FRIENDS
Luden [163]

The question requires that we fill up the blank spaces with the correct words. Find the completed passage below:

 • British people have a reputation for being rather quiet and reserved. However, a new study has (1) revealed that Britons are actually quite sociable and the (2) average person claims to have 14 close friends. Although a minority of those questioned (3) admitted that they had no best friend, a quarter said that they had more than 18 close friends. Experts said that this is (4) due to changes in the way people (5) spend their free time. They are now more (6) likely to invite friends to their homes or go out socializing than previous generations. The increasing use of mobile phones and emails has also made it easier to (7) keep up with a greater number of friendships. Men's relationships are not (8) deep though they tend to have more friends. Women, (9) on the other hand prefer to have a small number of friends they can trust (10) totally, and with whom they can feel completely at (11) ease. The idea that people in the north of England are more neighborly than those in the south seems to be backed (12) up by the survey. However, despite having friends, it seems that family still (13) plays an important part in most people's lives. When asked who they would (14) turn to for help if they were ill or had a problem, the majority said that they would (15) call upon a relative first rather than a friend.

To correctly fill up the blank space, study the passage, and understand the context clues.

These clues will provide insight into the right verbs and prepositions to be fixed in the blank spaces.
