1. 4x - 8 + 2x + (-5x) + x^2 - 3 = 4x - 8 + 2x - 5x + x^2 - 3...now, we just combine like terms....lets group them...it will be easier ...x^2 + (4x + 2x - 5x ) - 8 - 3 = x^2 + x - 11

2. 2x + 5x = 8x

3. 2r + 4 + 3x - 2 = 3x + 2r + (4 - 2) = 3x + 2r + 2

4. 3x - 2y - x + 5y = (3x - x) + (5y - 2y) = 2x + 3y

5. 2y^2 - 8y^3 + 5y - 5y^2 + 4y^3 = (4y^3 - 8y^3) + (2y^2 - 5y^2) + 5y =

Answer:

h=3

Step-by-step explanation:

I divided -3.6 on both sides to get h by itself, and now I have h=-3.6/-10.8. combine like terms (-3.6/-10.8) and I got 3. My final answer would be h=3

In the rectangle
LekaFEV [45]
In order to form triangle PQT and quadrilateral TQRS, point T must lie on line PS which is 16 cm. long.

If the ratio of PT to TS is 5:3 and the total length of PS is 16, then PT must be 10 and TS must be 6 (10 + 6 =16) and 10:6 is the same ratio as 5:3. Another way to think about it is 5/3 = 10/6.

Now you have all the lengths that you need to find the areas of the quadrilateral and the triangle.

Make sure you draw a diagram of it!!

Answers:

  1. Discrete
  2. Continuous
  3. Discrete
  4. Continuous

==============================================

Explanations:

  1. This is discrete because we can't have half a basketball, or any non-whole decimal value to represent the number of basketballs. We can only consider positive whole numbers {1,2,3,4,...}. A discrete set like this has gaps between items. In other words, the midpoint of 2 and 3 (the value 2.5) isn't a valid number of basketballs.
  2. This is continuous because time values are continuous. We can take any two different markers in time, and find a midpoint between them. For example, the midpoint of 5 minutes and 17 minutes is 11 minutes since (5+17)/2 = 22/2 = 11. Continuous sets like this do not have any gaps between items. We can consider this to be densely packed.
  3. This is the same as problem 1, so we have another discrete function. You either score a bullseye or you don't. We can't score half a bullseye. The only possible values are {1,2,3,4,...}
  4. This is similar to problem 2. This function is continuous. Pick any two different positive real numbers to represent the amount of gallons of water. You will always be able to find a midpoint between those values (eg: we can have half a gallon) and such a measurement makes sense.

So in short, always try to ask the question: Can I pick two different values, compute the midpoint, and have that midpoint make sense? If so, then you're dealing with a continuous variable. Otherwise, the data is discrete.

The vertices of a triangle are P(-1, 3), Q(2, -1), and R(5, 3).
Morgarella [4.7K]
Ok so to find which sides are congruent we need to know their lengths.

To find the length we need the distance formula between two point ->

√(X2-X1)∧2 +(Y2-Y1)∧2

Ok lets find the first side PQ

P(-1,3) Q(2,-1)
   X1 Y1  X2 Y2

√(2-(-1)∧2 + (-1-3)∧2 = 5

Now PR

P (-1,3) R (5,3)
    X1 Y1  X2 Y2

√(5-(-1))∧2 + (3-3)∧2) = 6

Now the last side QR

Q (2, -1) R (5,3)
   X1  Y1    X2 Y2

√(5-2)∧2 + (3-(-1))∧2 = 5

From the above work we see that PQ and QR are congruent becuase they are equal PQ=QR

Also the opposite angles of these sides are congruent. Hope this helps :).
