Answer:

Pablo Picasso's Guernica painting is one of the most famous paintings by the Spanish artist and one of the best known in Cubism. This work of art reveals the effects of war on a population.

The Spanish artist was inspired by the bombing of the city of Guernica on April 26, 1937. On this day, German planes of the Condor Legion almost completely destroyed the Spanish city.

Guernica (or Gernika in Basque) is a town in the province of Biscay, located in the autonomous community of the Basque Country.

For this reason, this picture also has political significance and acts as a critique of the devastation caused by the Nazi forces allied with the Spanish dictator Franco. Another possible interpretation indicates that the Guernica painting functions as a symbol of peace or antiwar.

After it was finished (it took about a month to complete), the painting toured the world, becoming globally recognized and drawing the attention of the rest of the world to the Spanish Civil War.

With the onset of the Spanish Civil War (1936), the death of his mother in 1939 and the beginning of World War II, the artist had a darker phase. Some of his works created during this period reveal his most tormented mood, such as the painting Guernica and the series "Dona Maar".
