Answer:The Recession of 1960-61 began in April 1960 and lasted 10 months, ending in February 1961. By the time Kennedy took office in January 1961, the United States was in the middle of financial trouble. The GDP was on the rise in Q2 and Q3 of 1960 but saw a decline to -5.0% in the final quarter of that year. Unemployment also reached a peak of 7.1% by May 1961. Established on March 1, 1961, by Executive Order 10924, the Peace Corps is one of the most successful programs to come from the Kennedy administration. The program was put in place to help underdeveloped nations with farming, education, health care and construction. It became a hit with college students who saw it as an opportunity to travel while also being able to help those in need.  The Equal Pay Act of 1963 was signed into law on June 10, 1963. Its creation was meant to abolish wage disparity based on sex. This problem was always prevalent, especially after WWII. At the time, more women were joining the workforce and taking jobs originally held by men. Amending the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938, the updated EPA was a major change that needed to be done in order to close the wage gap in women’s pay.

World peace, or peace on Earth, is the concept of an ideal state of happiness, freedom and peace within and among all people and nations on earth. It can also be referred to as a global process of maintaining the environment of the Earth not less than when it used to have no any existence of war or violence. This idea of world non-violence is one motivation for people and nations to willingly cooperate, either voluntarily or by virtue of a system of governance that objects it will be solved by love and peace. Different cultures, religions, philosophies and organisations have varying concepts on how such a state would come about.

questions 1–10 are based on the following passage. this passage is adapted from edith wharton, ethan frome. ©1911 by scribner’s.
Lemur [1.5K]

Silence, solitude, delusion, and the negative effects of adhering to social norms are some of the major themes of Ethan Frome. Wharton uses personal stories to illustrate her conceptual points. From the summary we can find out the passage questions.

The events of Ethan Frome take place against the backdrop of a New England winter's bitter cold, gloom, and desolation. Ethan Frome is a reclusive farmer struggling to make ends meet while caring for his cold, demanding, and unappreciative wife, Zeena.

When Mattie, the cousin of Ethan's wife, shows up to help, a glimmer of hope breaks into his life of despair. As he falls in love with Mattie, his life is forever changed, but their future is doomed by the oppressive traditions of the time.

Ethan Frome by Edith Wharton is a classic work of American literature that features likeable characters who are caught in situations from which it seems impossible for them to get out.

The accident in the novel is probably based on a true event that took place in Lenox, Massachusetts in 1904 where five children got killed while crashed into a lamppost when sliding down Courthouse Hill.
