As someone who writes books, I'd normally use quotation marks, and the person is obviously talking, so the first one should be correct.
canoniz'd bones", "hearsed in death", and "ponderous and marble jaws"
IF I can sing well enough, I'll join the school chorus.
The IF implies that something is conditional i.e. it may happen, it may not happen (it depends on whether you can sing well enough!)
