Relationship between water and transpiration:

The process through which the water is released from the plant to the environment is called as transpiration. The water from the root is passed on to the leaf surface through xylem by capillary action of water.

The water exhibits capillary action due to properties such as surface tension, cohesion, and adhesion. With the help of adhesion property, the water molecules binds with the xylem wall molecules, due to cohesion, the water molecules bind with one another and facilitates continuous as well as easy movement from root to the leaf through stem.
