When a person reads he/she feels a certain way driven by the words in the text, this is called mood and it has to do with word choice, imagery, and figures of speech that are used in a story. This helps create a distinct feeling for audiences. The two sentences which contribute to the overall eerie mood of this excerpt from Poe in "The Cask of Amontillado" are the two first beginning “The wine sparkled…” and "The nitre!" I said;”

By describing the environment surrounding Fortunado and Montressor as they walk down a long passage through catacombs and wine vaults, Poe sets the tone of  the scene.

Part b) "There are several ..." Because it is a sentence that is likely to precede facts. The others are opinions about how something 'SHOULD' be, and aren't presenting facts or claiming something. The first one 3ven says "I think..." which is clearly an opinion.

What is the author's purpose for including the ecker study in how headlines change the way we think
olga55 [171]

Answer:

The author's purpose for including Ecker's study was to support his claim that headlines matter and change the perspective of readers.

Explanation:

"How Headlines Change The Way We Think" is an article written by Maria Konnikova. The article talks about how headlines change the perspective of readers.

In this article, the author includes Ullrich Ecker's study. As per the study, Ecker suggests that a slight change in the words in headlines does make a difference in the reader's perspective. In his studies, the factual article (which was misleading), hurt the reader's ability to recall detail's from the article.

Therefore, the purpose was to support the author's claim, with facts, that how headlines change the reader's perspective.
