<em><u>An individual might be more likely to survive in an environment near a pond because of their diet, which mostly includes marshy animals such as newts, young fish, worms, frogs, and insects. The pattern on the garter snakes' back will also help the individual to survive near a pond, as it helps the garter snake to hide in reeds from predators. </u></em>
