Answer:

1. B

2. A

3. D

4. E

5. C

Explanation:

Energy can be defined as the ability (capacity) to do work. The various forms of energy are solar energy, electrical energy, chemical energy, thermal energy, wind energy, nuclear energy etc.

The Law of Conservation of Energy states that energy cannot be destroyed but can only be transformed or converted from one form to another.

Some of the terminologies associated with energy includes the following;

1. Fuel cell: produces electrical energy chemically. It is a technology that operates just like batteries but do not need to be recharged since it doesn't run down. Also, it comprises of two (2) electrodes which are: positive electrode (cathode) and negative electrode (anode), with an electrolyte embedded in between them.

2. Alternative energy: energy sources that are still in development. These includes energy source other than fossil fuels. Some examples are petroleum, diesel and coal.

3. Energy conservation: includes lifestyle changes. It involves energy saving actions in order to reduce the level of energy consumption such as daylight savings, energy saving bulbs, etc.

4. Ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC): produces electrical energy using the temperature difference between two layers of water.

5. Energy efficiency: percentage of energy that does useful work. It determines the amount of work that can be done at a particular time.

Explain a factor that accounts for contemporary population growth.
AURORKA [14]

The factors that accounted for the population growth are birth date, death rate, immigration, and emigration.

The following information should be considered:

 • The birth date deals with the no of babies born at the particular time period. If there is an increase in the birth rate, so the population should increase and vice versa.
 • The death rate deals with the no of deaths during a particular time period. If the death rate is increased so the population should decrease and vice versa.
 • Immigration deals with the movement of the people are in the place. If immigration is increased so the population should be high.
 • Emigration means the movement of the people that are out of the place. If it is increased so the population is decreased.

Therefore we can conclude that the factors that accounted for the population growth are birth date, death rate, immigration, and emigration.

Science notebook activity in this exploration, you will identify the prevailing winds and ocean currents that exist on earth, as
Serggg [28]

The Earth is known to have five prevailing wind zones. They are:

 • Polar easterlies is known to flow from polar high-pressure belt in the direction of the temperate low-pressure belts and it is said to blow from the east.
 • Westerlies moves from from the west toward the east.
 • Horse latitudes, found in the north and south and moves or flow toward the prevailing westerlies or equator.
 • Trade winds flows mainly from east to west that is north and south of the equator.
 • The doldrums starts at low pressure or weak pressure gradients, and moves in the direction of the trade wind of North and south.

Some of the examples of ocean Currents in the world are:

 • North Equatorial Current is known to be a westward wind-driven current
 • Kuroshio Current is known as north-flowing and also a warm ocean current .
 • North Pacific Current is known to flow from west-to-east .
 • Alaskan Current has its current flowing counterclockwise.
 • Counter Equatorial Current is known as an eastward flowing and also a wind-driven current
 • South Equatorial Current is known to flow from east-to-west. etc.

What is the link between wind and ocean currents?

The winds is known to be a weather condition that carries surface water with them which therefore forms currents.

Note that as these currents are said to flow westward, the Coriolis effect which is a force that emanates from the rotation of the Earth is said to lower their intensity which can make the currents to bend to the right, facing the north.

Why do you think Russians have almost always had a centralized government? What problems do you think the government had as Russ
snow_tiger [21]

Answer:

The Russian Federation has a centralized political system, with power concentrated

in a president and a prime minister, a weak multiparty political system dominated

by the ruling United Russia party, and a bicameral legislature (Federal Assembly).

The Federal Assembly consists of a lower house (State Duma) and an upper house

(Federation Council). The country has an estimated population of 142 million.

Security forces generally reported to civilian authorities; however, in some areas of

the Northern Caucasus, there were serious problems with civilian control of

security forces.

There were numerous reports of governmental and societal human rights problems

and abuses during the year. The restrictions on political competition and

interference in local and regional elections in ways that restricted citizens' right to

change their government continued. There were reports of: attacks on and killings

of journalists by unidentified persons for reasons apparently related to their

activities; physical abuse by law enforcement officers, particularly in the North

Caucasus region; and harsh and often life-threatening prison conditions. Arbitrary

detention and politically motivated imprisonments were problems. The government

controlled many media outlets and infringed on freedoms of speech and

expression, pressured major independent media outlets to abstain from critical

coverage, and harassed and intimidated some journalists into practicing self-

censorship. The Internet remained by and large free and provided citizens access to

an increased amount of information that was not available on state-controlled

media. The government limited freedom of assembly, and police at times used

violence to prevent groups from engaging in peaceful protest. Rule of law and due

process violations remained a problem.

Maurya India characteristics
SpyIntel [72]

Explanation:

Mauryan empire, in ancient India, a state centred at Pataliputra (later Patna) near the junction of the Son and Ganges (Ganga) rivers. It lasted from about 321 to 185 BCE and was the first empire to encompass most of the Indian subcontinent.

Gupta Empire of Chandragupta II

After gaining power, Chandragupta II expanded the Gupta Empire through conquest and political marriages until the end of his reign in 413 CE. By 395 CE, his control over India extended coast-to-coast. Just like Ashoka, Chandragupta II made Pataliputra the capital of his empire and centralized the government there. He used tribute money from allies to fund government projects and salaries. Unlike Ashoka, Chandragupta did not rely on a network of spies or closely monitor the affairs of foreigners or allies. Instead, he let regions make their own decisions about administration and local governance.

Some scholars have argued that the Gupta empire was a golden age of India. The empire was marked by peace and public safety, and scholars flourished in this environment. Kalidasa, a poet of the time, is considered the greatest poet and dramatist of the Sanskrit language. Aryabhata, who lived during Gupta empire, was the first of the Indian mathematician-astronomers who worked on the approximation for Pi. Vishnu Sharma is thought to be the author of the Panchatantra fables, one of the most widely-translated non-religious books in history.

The Gupta empire ended with the invasion of the White Huns, a nomadic tribe of people from central Asia, at the end of the fifth century CE. Until the sixteenth century, there was no unifying empire; regional political kingdoms ruled India.
