Exercise 1 Reorganize each paragraph for meaning, unity, and coherence.
Whitepunk [10]

Answer: The paragraph can be reorganized by arranging events in chronological order.

Explanation: Earvin Johnson was born in 1959. He was nicknamed "Magic" because of a spectacular basketball game he played in high school. He went to Michigan State to play college basketball. Earvin "Magic" Johnson played professional basketball for the Los Angeles Lakers. Recently, he contracted HIV and retired from playing professional basketball.

The above paragraph is chronologically accurate because the events that occured first have been mentioned first. The paragraph begins with the mention of Earvin Johnson's birth, college and ends at his profession and retirement.

This makes it easy to understand his life and makes the paragraph more legible.

Need help or answer 1
zysi [14]
A phrase is a set of words that don't have a subject doing a verb.

A clause does have a subject doing a verb.

So therefore, 1 would be a phrase, 2 would be a subordinate clause, and I'm sure (or hope) you can figure out the rest..?
