1. With the destruction of the Carthage, Rome was the #1 power in the Mediterranean.
2. Rome entered a new period. One that saw the of the Republic, and the rule of emperors who would expand the Rome Empire.
Although colonial ordinances attempted some protection of natural resources, they were quite limited in nature. Over time, population growth, industrialization, urbanization, and a shift to a market-driven economy put increasing pressure on remaining natural resources.
