Well the united states wanted as much land as they could get so that ended up with them forcing native americans out of their land and given a much smaller space to live in.

Later on during the time of manifest destiny, they (the settlers) believed that the expansion of the US throughout the American continents was both justified and inevitable. This lead to the united states gaining more land leaving less for the natives.
