Answer:

A. The names of the winning couple are announced—Ryan and Cora. Cora cries tears of joy. --> 5. resolution

B. The crowd cheers the couples on the dance floor. Ryan and Cora are dancing well, but Cora feels stabs of pain. Still, she is determined not to let Ryan down. --> 3. climax

C. Ryan and Cora walk to the school gym. They are ready to compete in the dance contest. --> 1. exposition

D. Cora sprains her ankle while climbing the stairs. Ryan gets her an aspirin from the first aid station. --> 2. rising action

E. Ryan notices Cora struggling and helps her by improvising. He performs lifts that allow Cora to keep her feet off the ground during the last bit of their performance. --> 4. falling action

Explanation:

Exposition is the very beginning a story, where the author introduces the characters, the setting and other elements or pieces of information that will contextualize the story.

Rising action takes place after the introduction, the exposition. It is usually an event in a plot that creates the condition for conflicts to appear.

Climax is the moment of most tension in the plot, when the biggest conflict needs to be solved by the main characters.

Falling action is the opposite of rising action, taking place after the climax and being characterized by a decrease in tension. We can already see where things are going to end.

Finally, resolution is the conclusion of the story, its closing.

Let's put each part of the story in its correct place so that you can see how the plot unfolds according to the explanation above:

C. Ryan and Cora walk to the school gym. They are ready to compete in the dance contest. --> 1. exposition

D. Cora sprains her ankle while climbing the stairs. Ryan gets her an aspirin from the first aid station. --> 2. rising action

B. The crowd cheers the couples on the dance floor. Ryan and Cora are dancing well, but Cora feels stabs of pain. Still, she is determined not to let Ryan down. --> 3. climax

E. Ryan notices Cora struggling and helps her by improvising. He performs lifts that allow Cora to keep her feet off the ground during the last bit of their performance. --> 4. falling action

A. The names of the winning couple are announced—Ryan and Cora. Cora cries tears of joy. --> 5. resolution

The question is incomplete and the full version can be found online.

Answer:

The tone of the passage is hopeful and idyllic. It starts with a seemingly bad situation, which is reflected by the words "bewildering" and "discouraging," but then describes a good turn of events, as Calypso is found on a stream, usually a nice location. Words phrases such as "bed of yellow mosses," "small white bulb," and "soft nest" all help depict a dream-like situation, far from the initial one.

With the change proposed, the tone would become grim and unhopeful, mostly due to the phrases "puddle of gray algae," "insignificant bleached bulb," and "tangle of twigs," all of which depict the same image in a way that makes it look like a dire place to be.

Explanation:

The words in bold are: "bed of yellow mosses in which its small white bulb had found a soft nest."

A bed of yellow mosses is more appealing and inviting than a puddle of gray algae. While a small white bulb sounds adorable, an insignificant bleached bulb is a sad image. And a soft nest is likely to be more comfortable than a tangle of twigs.
