Compare and contrast middle ages and renaissance
Westkost [7]
The Middle Ages and Renaissance periods shared many similarities and many differences. The Middle Ages were considered dark and barbaric, while the Renaissance (meaning rebirth) was a vibrant and prosperous period. Both had social classes, but during the Renaissance these classes were more relaxed and less rigid. Literature and arts were very important during both time periods. Society became more educated during the Renaissance and citizens enjoyed a wider variety of writings. In the Middle Ages, typically only clergy and the upper classes could read. Religion was important during both periods. However, during the Middle Ages religion was never questioned and the Roman Catholic Church reigned supreme.
