Explanation:

Laurie Halse Anderson's "Fever 1793," tells the story of a young teenage girl named Matilda Cook and her search for her mother. The story follows the teenage girl through the death of her grandfather and also accepting the deaths around her because of the fever outbreak.

Individual vs. self-conflict is a conflict in a character and his/her emotional or personal life. This type of conflict is internal as it occurs within the character and no external force is involved.

And in this story, one internal conflict is when Matilda declares,

<em>"There could be no running from this. Hiding from death was not like hiding from Mother when she wanted me to scrub kettles, or ignoring Silas when he begged for food. I was the only one left."</em>

These lines show her reluctance in accepting that there is no hiding from death.
