Answer: Lizabeth recognizes that she has looked only at herself rather than at other people.

"Marigold" is a short story by Eugenia Collier published in 1969. The story deals with Lizabeth, an African American girl growing up in rural Maryland during the Great Depression. It addresses themes such as poverty, maturity, innocence and compassion.

In the story, Lizabeth is upset due to the struggles of her family, which causes her to destroy the marigolds that her neighbour has in her garden. She ends up regretting her actions and apologizing. The story ends with Lizabeth, now an adult, realizing that innocence cannot coexist with compassion.

Read Proposed Treatment To Fix Genetic Diseases Raises Ethical Issues by Rob Stein

What advice did doctors give Lori Martin?

A

She should be tested for Leigh's syndrome because

her child was born with it.

B

She should not have any more biological children

because she is a carrier of Leigh's Syndrome.

С

It is okay for her to have more children because they

are unlikely to develop the syndrome.

D

She should have a child with a different partner

because they would have different genes.

Answer: B. She should not have any more biological children  because she is a carrier of Leigh's Syndrome

Explanation:

Lori Martin is a 33 years old woman from Houston. After discovering her son had been born with Leigh's syndrome, she was advised by her doctors not to have any more children because, given that she´s a carrier of said disease, the same would happen to any embryo she could produce.

Stein brings up Martin´s case as an example of someone who could benefit from a new technique that allows the removal of unwanted DNA from an embryo.

The tone Tony should use in his letter is the following one:

Objective and respectful.

His letter is addressed  to a senator, a member of the government. Therefore, it is vital that Tony shows respect. At the same time, Tony must be objective, since the subject he speaks of is a very serious issue which has to be discussed in a very clear way, so Tony is able to make a point.
