The difference is between writing plays and writing novels : Plays are experienced at a tempo the audience doesn't select; a novel is read at the pace of the reader
When reading a play there are descriptions for what the actor needs to do and the names of their characters while a book is not read by an actor and the directions and such are just included in the dialog.
