Viewed in a global context, the American sectional struggle over slavery in the territories was part of a transatlantic upsurge

in nationalist feeling in the 1840s and 1850s. Nationalist and republican revolutions swept through Europe in 1848 while wars of national unification or expansion raged in Mexico and South America. Almost everywhere, competing visions of national futures led to conflicts over territorial boundaries, forms of representative government, central versus local control, and degrees of personal freedom. Many Americans sympathized with overseas struggles against kings and tyrants, but when their own nation's expansion became intertwined with fierce sectional divisions over slavery versus freedom, its political leaders inched step-by-step toward a homegrown nationalist war.David Wilmot, author of the Wilmot Proviso, is an excellent example of a:

Answer:

  • Free soiler
  • Staunch Abolitionist

Explanation:

Even though David Wilmot was a democrat, he was a Northern Democrat who was opposed to slavery and was a free soiler. Free soilers were people who were opposed to the spread of slavery into the new territories that the U.S. was acquiring at the time.

David Wilmot became a staunch abolitionist who introduced the Wilmot Proviso to the House of Representatives which called for slavery being made illegal in new territories and his views contributed to the formation of the anti-slavery Republican party.

Why did most of these early movements fail to stop Western
GuDViN [60]

Answer:

  • After, the British rule started its expansion across the globe, there were different areas which the British rule invaded and some how they were able to make colonies out of them. As the Europeans were able to generate a large scale of revenue out of the industries that were made inside the region.
  • As, there were great imperial rules inside the subcontinent and they ruled these lands for centuries, as there were people inside the system who were not interested in keeping there own power and work for the good of there people. As they were all busy in having a great and lavish life in there majestic palaces, while there people suffered from hunger. The British came and they invaded there lands so easily just because the people of India and the rest of sub continent were all fed up of there rulers and kings. And they joined hands with the British expansion as they started ruling over these lands, and they left after having leaving some of there traces inside the region for the good of the Kingdom.
  • So, the imperial was all but gone when the East India company happened inside Asia. And the British rule came with a plan, as they did not showed up as a army but had other ideas in mind.
