Answer:

a. The Sower glorifies the past, while Captain Littlepage admits life was hard.

b. Captain Littlepage seems determined to change the present, but the Sower is  resigned to insignificance.

Explanation:

As the sower flung his seed across the field, he remembered with fondness, the past days when "all was wheat without a tare, and all was fair, righteous and true". He also vowed to replicate the Old world in the New world through his planting.

Captain Littlepage on the other hand recalled his past as a ship captain. He remembered that life was not so easy as a captain. He referred to it as "a dog's life", which "made men of those who followed it". The captain was not meant to be familiar with his crew, and he was to keep busy by reading. Sometimes the waves could be turbulent. In summary he admitted that life was not so easy as a captain but it was also an interesting life as he was exposed to other parts of the world.

Captain Littlepage was also irritated by the present life of those in his village who thought nothing of sailing to learn more about life. The Sower was simply satisfied in providing food for the nation whom he said would 'bless him'.
