During the time that The Metamorphosis was written, which part of Gregor's life would have been considered commonplace? A. Under
Aliun [14]

Answer: D. Supporting an elderly parent financially.

In The Metamorphosis, Gregor works as a travelling salesman in order to support his family. This includes his aging parents and his unmarried sister. During Gregor's time and in his cultural context, supporting an elderly parent would have been commonplace. The fact that the family depends on him financially puts a lot of pressure on him, and increases the problems that come with his transformation.
