When James ascended the throne in February 1685 and became King James II, his personally owned colony became a royal province. In May 1688 the province was made part of the Dominion of New England.

11.They named the colony New Jersey after the English Channel Island of Jersey. The new proprietors did all they could to increase settlement in the colony. They guaranteed the religious freedom to those who were willing to settle in New Jersey. Philip Carteret was appointed the first governor of the New Jersey colony.

12.In 1681, William Penn, a Quaker, established a colony based on religious tolerance; it was settled by many Quakers along with its chief city Philadelphia, which was also the first planned city. ... After the Great Depression and World War II, Pennsylvania moved towards the service industry and became a swing state.

13.After years of planning and two months crossing the Atlantic, James Oglethorpe and 114 colonists climbed 40 feet up the bluff from the Savannah River on this day in 1733 and founded the colony of Georgia. George II granted the Georgia trustees a charter for the colony a year earlier
