(APUSH) What compromises made the union, kept the union, and made the union fall apart?
rodikova [14]
he Kansas-Nebraska Act allowed each territory to decide the issue of slavery on the basis of popular sovereignty. Kansas with slavery would violate the Missouri Compromise, which had kept the Union from falling apart for the last thirty-four years. The long-standing compromise would have to be repealed. Opposition was intense, but ultimately the bill passed in May of 1854. Territory north of the sacred 36°30' line was now open to popular sovereignty. The North was outraged. The political effects of Douglas' bill were enormous. Passage of the bill irrevocably split the Whig Party, one of the two major political parties in the country at the time. Every northern Whig had opposed the bill; almost every southern Whig voted for it. With the emotional issue of slavery involved, there was no way a common ground could be found. Most of the southern Whigs soon were swept into the Democratic Party. Northern Whigs reorganized themselves with other non-slavery interests to become the REPUBLICAN PARTY, the party of Abraham Lincoln. This left the Democratic Party as the sole remaining institution that crossed sectional lines. Animosity between the North and South was again on the rise. The North felt that if the Compromise of 1820 was ignored, the Compromise of 1850 could be ignored as well. Violations of the hated Fugitive Slave Law increased. Trouble was indeed back with a vengeance.

Here's what I want to know: What did "freedom" mean to former slaves? What is the relationship between political rights, economi
OLEGan [10]

Answer:

 • Freedom to former slaves means a new life to them
 • The relationships that existed between all the rights is that they are all for the protection of man.
 • Rights of African Americans were taking away and they became poorer and homeless.
 • The overturned could have been prevented if the agreement before the election was folowed strictly.

Explanation:

A. The proclamation of 1863 brought about the freedom of slaves from the white's domination which has prevented and denies slaves the freedom and equality that should have been enjoyed. Freedom to former slaves has brought about the rights and what they have been denied for all these decades.

Freedom to former slaves gives them to enjoy all rights that they are entitled to that they have suffered a lot on from their slave masters.

B. The relationship that existed between all these types of rights is that they all required lots of investment by the government to ensure functionality in the society in any form that each right might fall. All these rights are related because they are made for the benefit of all human race protection .

C. Reconstruction was doomed to fail because the main aim of reconstruction after the civil war was to bring about freedom and equality for the African American slaves majorly in the south but the election that was conducted in1876 brings about the collapse of this era because the previous agreement before the election has been damaged.

D. FACTORS THAT CAUSED RECONSTRUCTION TO BE OVERTURNED

The 1876 compromise by the southern Democrats was the genesis of how reconstruction was overturned.

The rights that were lost by African Americans which the enjoyed during the reconstruction era was a big factor.

Lots of slaves or freemen were left to be without homes and made poorer.

The election in 1876 also contributes to the fall of the reconstruction era

The corruption with the Republicans also leads to the overturned of the construction era because the Northerners have lost faith in them.

The overturned reconstruction could have been prevented if the Democrats had stuck to the pr-election agreements that were made with African Americans in protecting their rights.
