Feudal European and Japanese societies were built on hereditary classes system. The nobles were placed at the top which was followed by warriors, and lastly by the tenant farmers or serfs. In both feudal Europe and Japan, their constant warfare had the most important class of warriors. In Europe, the warriors were called knights, and in Japan, they were called samurai.

Feudalism was a socio-economic system that existed in Medieval Europe. Although it first emerged in Europe, a different type of feudalism was also present in Japan. In the Feudal system, society was divided into three layers: King, Nobles, Knight, and peasants. The feudal system in Europe developed much before than it developed in Japan and was more centralized, In japan, the emperor didn't had full control over the local aristocrats. Japanese feudalism was based on Confucian law while the European feudalism was on Germanic.
