Mercantilism consisted of lowering imports and increasing exports.

The system of mercantilism was developed mostly by the Dutch and carried on in their colonies, especially those in America.

Exports were goods that other countries needed, and so those needed to be increased.
Imports were goods that your country needed, and so those needed to be kept to a minimum.
An entirely self-sustaining country could be achieved with a high export rate, which would increase their wealth, measured at that time in gold.

Population growth rates in industralized countries are on the decline for all the following reasons EXCEPT _____.
Andrei [34K]

Answer:

Birth control is taboo and banned in industrialized countries

Explanation:

The population growth in the industrialized countries has been on the decline for the past few decades. The are numerous reasons for this trend, but that the birth control is taboo and banned in industrialized countries is simply not true. The birth control is actually very popular, and people speak openly about it. It is used as a method of prevention of getting pregnant when it is not desirable, so it actually one of the factors that contribute a lot to the decline of the birth rates, not the other way around.

All of the following factors probably helped account for the increase in the European population between 1000 and 1300 except
KonstantinChe [14]

All of the following factors probably helped account for the increase in the European population between 1000 and 1300 except the monopolization of women by the elite. The dramatic increase in European population between 1000 and 1300 was primarily due to an increased birth rate outstripping high medieval mortality rates. Between the years 1000 and 1300 it is estimated that Europe's population doubled. It was a dynamic and remarkable period, Europe experienced one of the longest periods of sustained growth in human history. And this growth was crucial to the political/cultural achievements of this period.

The High Middle Ages (1000-1300) was marked as a period of intellectual flowering.
