Explanation:

Orpheus and Eurydice is a myth, that talks about love, loss, and the power of art/music. The myth starts with a man that was given power by the gods; to play the most wonderful music that the world had ever heard.

After this adventure with Jason and Argonauts is when he would find his true love, Eurydice. On the day that Orpheus and Eurydice were to be wed the young bride was bitten by a snake in the grass. So Orpheus made his way through a cave to get to the underworld. While there he made his way to Hades himself to plead and sing for him, so that he may have his only true love back. After listening to Orpheus's song Hades was crying. From that tear, Hades calls out her name. She then appeared. Orpheus was allowed to take her with him as long as while on their journey back that he must never look back to see if she was still following him. If he did look back she would once again she would be taken from him. Then on their trip out of the underworld.

In the poem, "Orpheus (1)" we are viewing this story from Eurydice's point of view. She is talking about how Orpheus was always in control of Eurydice. By saying things like, "the return to time was not my choice.", and, "You had your old leash with you, love you might call it."

This point of view changes the story because, while the original explains love and affection as being a driving motive for saving Eurydice, The poem, however, suggests that Orpheus was being selfish and controlling. Eurydice seemingly does not love Orpheus.

Match the definition to the word. 1. an introduction or announcement before a performance allegory 2. cleansing or purifying of
tatyana61 [14]
I think your word list and definition options got a little mixed up in the wording of this question. So let's start by looking at the meanings of the word choices you have.

Allegory is a word used for stories, poems, or pictures that can have a hidden meaning. Characters and events may stand for political, religious, or (most often) moral ideas.

A soliloquy is talking to yourself. When using the word soliloquy in reference to plays, it is when a character is alone on stage delivers a monologue (a long speech).

In a drama, an aside are words spoken to an audience by an actor. What the actor says is short and directed at the audience. Their monologue is not heard by other characters in the play.

When there is an introduction to a written or performed work, we call this a prologue. They are often delivered to the audience by an actor at the beginning of a play or as a preface to a written work.

Catharsis is the release of emotions, especially through art forms (music, painting, drama).

To match the definitions you were given #1 is prologue, #2 is catharsis, #3 is soliloquy, #4 is aside and #5 is allegory.
