If they try to stand up or fight back, they are usually killed or sent away to a camp. Not only will they be tortured and have to endure many hardships (maybe even death), North Korea also often punished the rest of the family as well. Out of fear they do not stand against the government. They have been brainwashed into obeying by the leaders.
