A large part of waste which causes pollution to water bodies come from Industrial discharge. Polluted water has a direct and adverse effects on humans, which include ;

Spread of diseases : Water bodies provides means of water for various purposes including drinking and domestic use ; §the use of contaminated water for these purpose will no doubt have a great effect in the lives which could be typhoid, cancer, skin or liver diseases depending on the type of contaminant.

Destruction of sea lives leading to economic effect :With the introduction of chemicals or oil spills, which are main sources of contaminant. However, there are citizens who depend on sea lives such as fishes, crab for their livelihood are greatly affected as numerous sea animals die from pollution.
