If the population in Charleston, SC grew exponentially from 90,620 people in 1990 to 120,083 people in 2010. Write a function to

model Charleston's population from 1990 to 2010 assuming the population grew at a constant growth rate during that time period where P (population) is a function of time, t, (where t represents t).

On a certain river, a paddleboat travels 12 miles upstream (against the current) in the same amount of time it travels 20 mil
marin [14]

Given :

a paddle boat travels  upstream = 12 miles

a paddle boat travels  downstream = 20 miles

speed of the current = 2 miles per hour

Let the speed of the boat =x

Let the time taken = t

We know the distance for upstream D= (boat speed - current speed) * time

the distance for downstream D= (boat speed + current speed) * time

Plug in all the values and variables in the distance

For upstream 12 = (x-2)t, then t = \frac{12}{x-2}

For downstream 20 = (x+2)t then t = \frac{20}{x+2}

we got two equations for t, equate it and solve for x

\frac{12}{x-2} = \frac{20}{x+2}

Cross multiply it

12(x+2) = 20(x-2)

12x + 24 = 20x - 40 (subtract 12x  and add 40 on both sides)

64 = 8x

x= 8

the speed of the boat in still water = 8 miles per hour

Triangle XYZ is reflected across the y-axis, and X = (4, –5). What are the coordinates of X’ ?
Nina [5.8K]
The coordinates of X would be X'(-4, -5).

The equation would be P(x,y) -> P'(-x, y) so you would make the x-coordinate a negative number and keep the y-coordinate the same.

Find the height and area of each of these triangles
andreev551 [17]

Answer:

area= 1/2*(h*b) h- height, b- base

the triangle is isosceles (denoted by the 2 dashes on the sides of the triangle)

so they are equal in length

angles in triangle = 180

so 38+38=76

180-76=104

base=24

divide the triangle in the center

so now triangle 1(left) the base = 12

and triangle 2(right) the base = 12

use trigonometric ratios

in this we need to find the height

which is opposite of 38,

we already have the adjacent =12

so the ratio is Tan (Tangent Opposite/Adjacent)(TOA)

Tan38= (12/h)

multiply by h

h*Tan38=12

h=12/tan38 = 15.35929959
