I would recommend teenagers and "pre adult" 18-21 to read it. I found in high school reading it to be interesting and deep. I never read the whole thing in high school but I kept a little note with a quote from a passage. Everytime I came accross the quote, it made me want to find the "Self-Reliance" only because the quote meant more than words to me.
