George Washington was the first president of the United States, he was elected in April 30, 1789. He gave us the capital of the United States name (Washington D.C) His run as the President ended on March 4, 1797. He also took office after the 1788–89 presidential election, the nation's first quadrennial presidential election, in which he was elected unanimously. He was born on February 22, 1732, at Popes Creek in Westmoreland County, Virginia, and was the first of six children of Augustine and Mary Ball Washington. By English common law Washington was a naturalized subject of the King, as were all others born in the English colonies.
