In our federal government, we have three branches. This includes the executive, legislative, and juducial branches. All three of these branches have specific powers to make sure that no one branch of government gets too powerful. For example, the judicial branch (aka Supreme Court) can decide that a law made by Congress (aka the legislative branch) is unconstitutional. This allows the Supreme Court to get rid of any law that violates the rights of American citizens.
