Biologists have investigated how fast pre-mRNA splicing occurs by treating cells with a toxin that blocks the production of new

pre-mRNAs, then following the rate of splicing of the pre-mRNAs that were transcribed before adding the toxin. Why is addition of a toxin important in this study?

Answer:

It is very important to add the toxin for the blockage of new pre-mRNAs production because it would be much difficult and near to impossible to follow the speed of splicing of pre-mRNA, if new pre-mRNAs produces constantly during the study.

Addition of toxin will help the biologists to focus on the splicing rate of mRNA from start to end.

Examples of autotrophic bacteria are: (a) parasites (b) saprophytes (c) pathogenic
sweet [91]

Answer:

(d) chemosynthetic forms

Explanation:

Autotrophs are characterized by their ability to produce their own food; parasites, saprophytes, and pathogenic (disease-causing) organisms do not have this ability. Chemosynthetic ones, however, can through the conversion of one or more carbon-containing molecules into organic matter.

2. The vasa recta is a specialized capillary that branches from the ___________ arteriole. The blood flow in the vasa recta runs
lorasvet [3.4K]

Vasa recta

Explanation:

The vasa recta is a specialized capillary that branches from the efferent arteriole; The blood flow in the vasa recta runs parallel, but in the opposite direction to the flow of tubular filtrate within the nephron loop

  • The vasa recta capillaries are long, hairpin-shaped blood vessels that run parallel to the loops of Henle
  • The hairpin turns slow the rate of blood flow, which helps maintain the osmotic gradient required for water reabsorption
  • Absorbed water is returned to the circulatory system via the vasa recta, which surrounds the tips of the loops of Henle
  • Because the blood flow through these capillaries is very slow, any solutes that are reabsorbed into the bloodstream have time to diffuse back into the interstitial fluid, which maintains the solute concentration gradient in the medulla; this passive process is known as counter-current exchange

If one strand of DNA has the base sequence TTCCGGAA The complementary strand has which of the following sequence?
Mazyrski [523]

Answer:

If a DNA strand has the base sequence TTCCGGAA the complementary strand has the sequence AAGGCCTT.

Explanation:

A DNA molecule is constructed from sequences of its four nitrogenous bases: adenine, thymine, guanine and cytosine. Since DNA is made up of two strands, the sequence of nitrogenous bases of one strand is complementary to the other .

The complementarity of the bases is a characteristic of the nitrogenous bases in the nucleic acids to combine with their complementary base, which is the same as saying that purines complement with pyramidines.

  • Adenine is combined with Thymine A=T
  • Cytosine is complemented with Guanina C≡G

In this way, given a sequence on a DNA strand :

     T-T-C-C-G-G-A-A

The complementary strand will have this sequence:

     A-A-G-G-C-C-T-T
