Answer:

Exposition – The narrator introduces us to his miserable life at a Gulag, where mental and physical exhaustion are his constant companions, as well as hunger.

Rising action – The narrator is approached by Shestakov, a prisoner who has more luxuries than the others. Shestakov proposes a plan to escape the Gulag, but the narrator knows it is a trap. He says he will do it if Shestakov brings him condensed milk to drink.

Climax – The narrator receives two cans of condensed milk from Shestakov. He drinks them eagerly, passionately, while being watched by other prisoners.

Falling action – The narrator finishes drinking the condensed milk and proceeds to tell Shestakov he is not going to escape with him.

Resolution – The narrator confirms his predictions when he learns the prisoners who tried to escape were either killed or given worse sentences. Nothing bad happens to Shestakov, which proves he was working with the government.

Explanation:

In literature, exposition is the part of a story in which the author sets the stage for what will happen. It is where the theme, characters, conflicts, setting and/or circumstances are laid out.

Rising action is everything that takes place between the exposition and the climax. It is characterized by an increase in tension and the emergence of conflicts.

Climax is the story's peak moment, when the major conflict is addressed.

Falling action is the opposite of rising action, taking place after the climax and being characterized by a decrease in tension.

Denouement or resolution is the conclusion of the story, its closing.
