"Sunrise on the veld" is a story of a boy who feels strong and invincible. This boy believes that he has complete control of his own life, being young, healthy and attentive to all the elements that make him up. Upon waking up in the Savannah this feeling intensifies. The natural environment gives the boy not only the feeling of control but also freedom. However, during a walk in the Savannah, this boy comes across an animal that was young and very strong, but that broke its paw and suffered until death. Ants consume the animal's dead body and this makes the boy reflect on himself. He begins to realize that it is impossible to have complete control of life and that death is inevitable and can happen at any time. He begins to understand that to live is to know that there are uncontrollable situations.
