The positive connotations I found in the excerpt are the following: mean, to be part of it, vowed, banner of freedom and peace and instruments of knowledge and understanding. The freedom and peace through knowledge and understanding is what we, as humans should mean. These words uses contrast to negative thoughts, which make the excerpt's tone inspirational.
