The answer is George S. Patton of the 7th Army. He led a successful campaign both in Africa
and Sicily where he defeated the Germans and led the allies closer to
liberating France. This overshadowed by
a slapping incident that caused him his command. He would later redeem himself when he landed
in France with the 3rd Army.
