A character can stand out from situations where the character can use his skills and gifts to stand out and excel at situations. The author may must put these situations on the plot of his story. From this we can conclude that writers skillfully use the plot to make their characters stand out.
Another thing a story writer can do is use sensory details to make the reader feel the same sensations the character is feeling. These sensory details can be the sensation of touch when the character touches something, or the smells that the character feels, among others.
