Why was the Confederate defeat at Antietam important to the North?
agasfer [191]

Answer:

The correct answer is D. The Confederate defeat at Antietam was important to the North because it prevented Britain from supporting the Confederacy in the war.

Explanation:

The Battle of Antietam is one of the largest battles in the history of the United States of America in terms of the number of casualties (dead and wounded) that reached 23,000 from both sides. The battle took place on September 17, 1862, near the town of Sharpsburg, Maryland. The battle was led by General George McClellan and the Confederate South by General Robert Edward Lee. Despite the numerical superiority of the North, McLennan failed to achieve a decisive tactical victory, and Lee was able to withdraw some of his troops to Virginia. Strategically, the battle was seen as a marginal victory for the North, that prevented both France and Great Britain from entering into the war to help the Confederacy.

In an economic downturn, what can happen in countries that depend on high taxes to fund social programs?
mestny [16]

If there's an economic downturn in a country where the taxes are very high, and those taxes are used for the funding of the numerous social programs, than the country can very quickly face high rates of poverty and maybe even an internal conflict.

If the economy suddenly starts to crumble, the people that work would not be able to support themselves with the paying of very high taxes, thus they will rebel against that in order for the taxes to be lowered down.

On the other hand, that will result in little to no funding for the social programs. That will bring in revolt in the people that are very poor and need those programs, but also the people that do not work by their will but have relied on those money.

These two sides of the picture can easily bring in a lot of violence, tensions, even a revolution.
