John and Squire Gordon choose Black Beauty as the horse that will take them on a very long trip on a rainy day. The storm, during the trip gets stronger and stronger, but Black is a very strong horse, committed and fearless and does not fear the rain. However, at one point, Black refuses to cross a bridge, John and Squire Gordon are indignant and give the horse several lashes, which remain firm in their refusal to cross the fountain. This is an important moment in history, which shows how Black is loyal and intelligent, because the river water, influenced by the storm, overcame the source and is drowning all the men and horses that they tried to cross. Black saved the life of John and Squire Gordon,
