Due to the enlightenment time period he feared that they would uphold these new ideologies of liberty and man’s right to freedom. He was afraid that they would overthrow him and remove him from his control as a monarch. They were inspired by the American Revolution.
It was decided in 1987 that this event should be remembered by the U.S. Congress. The trail of tears became national historic trail to remember those who had lost their lives.
